Supplemental

CO2

Our innovative design creates additional CO2 and supplemental heating by burning biogas that is produced by our on site Anaerobic Biodigester. This allows us to recycle all of the plant wastes generated in our growth and harvest phases and even add local food waste collected from the community (reducing food waste going to landfill) to produce nutrient dense fertilizer and clean burning biogas.

Biogas when burned is so clean, it produces only heat, water vapour and CO2.

The CO2 produced in this process originally came from the food and plant growth process, so re-using the CO2 for new plant photosynthesis is a completely carbon neutral, eco-friendly way to take advantage of this free by product.

Plants need CO2 and they fix it (steal it from the air) to grow during photosynthesis, as the plants grow in an indoor environment (like ours) they can deplete the available CO2 and be unable to grow, no matter how much heat, light, water and care you provide.

Increasing the CO2 in the growing environment increases crop yields and speeds up growing cycles.

24 hour CO2 monitoring gives the operator complete control of the levels of CO2 inside our units for optimal crop production.

Watch this comparison video to see how well added CO2 works

  • Normal levels of CO2 in the air is 250-450 ppm (parts per million)
  • Plants cannot grow in levels below 350 ppm
  • Optimum plant growth /photosynthesis ratio is achieved at 1200-1500 ppm - Our supplemental CO2 generation goal is to maintain this safe, beneficial level of CO2 within the airtight Food Security Structure
  • Humans begin to feel the effects of higher CO2 levels at 3500 ppm
  • Workplace CO2 safety limits start at 5000 ppm
  • CO2 exposure that may lead to serious oxygen deprivation begins at levels greater than 40,000 ppm
